Full Figured Reading

As a plus size woman, when you watch TV and go to the movies, you don't see many people who look like you. Thankfully books are a different story. There are a lot of cool books out there with plus size heroines, or autobiographical books about spunky plus size women. Below are a few titles we recommend you check out.

The Fat Girl's Guide to Life
by Wendy Shanker

This is my favorite of all the fat girl books out there. Wendy's book is a hilarious, thought provoking, sometimes sad but always inspiring look at life as a plus size woman. I am thankful to call Wendy a friend and I can assure you that she is even more fabulous than the book lets on.

Wake Up I'm Fat
by Camryn Manheim

Camryn Manheim is one of the few plus size actresses in Hollywood. Her book is an autobiographical tale of her struggle to become a successful actress and accept herself. The book is very funny and interesting, and the cover is really empowering.

Fat!So?
by Marilyn Wann

This book is a much more politically charged book than the others mentioned here. It's a little more about fat activism than just size acceptance, but has a lot of good info in it. The statistics are intriguing and the different subject matters covered in the book are really educational.

I'm Not the New Me
by Wendy McClure

Wendy gained popularity because of her blog, Poundy, which told her stories of her struggles to manage her weight with Weight Watchers. The book is filled with funny stories from Wendy's life including her struggles with friends, family and romantic relationships. Wendy's writing is sharp and sarcastically funny, and reading her book feels like hanging out with a friend and listening to their stories.

Good In Bed
by Jennifer Weiner

Good in Bed is the book that started the trend of having a plus size heroine as the central figure of your novel. This book makes the plus size character a real, attractive, interesting woman that you identify with, not feel sorry for. The narrator, Candice Shapiro is like a funnier, smarter, more confident version of Bridget Jones.
