What does the name Beauty Plus Power mean?
Lisa Alpern, the site founder, chose the name to reflect her philosophy on full figured women. She wants to change common misperceptions of plus size women as sloppy, ugly and lazy. Many full figured women are sexy, beautiful, and fashionable.

She also wanted something to represent the strength that a woman can have by embracing who she is. Self acceptance and confidence are so difficult for women to achieve, especially about their body image. Being able to accept and embrace yourself and your body, regardless of size, is a true show of power.

Imagine the way we can change society, the media and the fashion industry by showing them attractive, powerful, confident women of size. That is Beauty Plus Power.

Your site looks a lot different than it used to, and you don't have articles anymore on self esteem or health, why is that?
We love the old site and we know a lot of our readers did too, but we have decided to focus almost exclusively on full figured fashion information. When Lisa Alpern founded Beauty Plus Power in July of 2003 (the site officially launched January 2004) it was her vision to provide a place where plus sized and full figured women could find out information about the best, most stylish plus size clothes. However, she had so much else to say about being plus size that the site became much more of a magazine and self help guide than a resource listing. She has decided to re-focus the site to return to its original concept. This doesn't mean that Beauty Plus Power is turning its back on other topics; stay tuned for big things from our little site!!!!!

I'd like to model for your website, how can I do that?
We use plus models from top agencies for our photo shoots. Although we often work directly with the agencies to cast girls, you are also free to send us your website if you have one. We will consider these submissions for future shoots, but it should be noted that we generally use models who are 5'8 - 5'11, and between a size 14-18. Plus size models, like any model, should be beautiful, with symmetrical features, clear skin and a proportional body. You can e-mail your portfolio to model@beautypluspower.com.

We do also have a "Reader Style" feature. You don't have to be a model for that - all you need is a homemade picture of you in your most fabulous outfit. You can send those submissions to readerstyle@beautypluspower.com.

Can I work for Beauty Plus Power?

How can I get my store listed in your directory?
At this time we only accept stores that carry women's clothing up to at least a size 18 in straight sizes, or that carry women's shoes up to at least a 10. We do not list stores that carry just men's or children's plus size clothing. Even if you meet the criteria, we reserve the right not to list your site if we don't think our readers would be interested in your clothes or for any other reason. How can I advertise on Beauty Plus Power?
We have a variety of advertising options available. Please request our rate sheet for options and prices. We do accept non-clothing advertisers that we feel are relevant to our site. Such categories include: jewelry, handbags, accessories as well as magazines, books and events that target plus size women.
